My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

My Little Pony continues to be ever-popular. And I was all too happy to put my creative talents to use to create a gijinka version of Princess Celestia!

The dress pattern required no alterations, lifted directly from a McCall's Renaissance costume pattern. The main color is bridal satin, while the center skirt panel and the inside of the sleeves are a subtle white-on-white brocade. The brocade provides a nice contrast to the bridal satin, but not so much that it drowns out the cutie mark in the center.

Speaking of which, the cutie mark is created from leftover scraps of gold, yellow and light yellow satin that I had lying around from previous projects. Let's hear it for recycling! The challenge was sketching out a pattern for the applique, but that was resolved when I realized I could blow up an image of the cutie mark and sketch it out based off that. Then came several hours of cutting and glueing the edges down on the rays to prevent fraying.

Finishing the dress is a nice gold lace trim I found while shopping for the main fabric and muslin lining. I love how it turned out so much that I'm tempted to make another for myself!
